Loz, Tan and Heidi do Kokoda!
Story
In October last year I read about Turia Pitt leading a group of trekkers on the Kokoda Trail. For reasons still not entirely clear to me, I was REALLY drawn to this. I have the utmost respect (and possible obsession) with the grit and determination of Turia, and I have been wanting to do something for ME, and for OTHERS that is physcially and mentally out of my comfort zone. All the boxes were ticked.
I then mentioned this crazy idea to a number of people, including (very casually) to my lovely friends Heidi and Tania... and what do you know, we secured the final 3 spots! We leave Sydney on Monday 23 May, and the hiking boots are walking the hills and trails of Sydney in preparation.
Not only will this be an incredible challenge for the 3 of us physically, mentally we're actually not sure what to expect! For me, not being able to call home to speak to the children for 8 days is going to be one of the biggest ones to overcome!
We are doing this to challenge ourselves, and also to raise funds for the incredible charity that is Interplast Australia & New Zealand.
By joining Turia Pitt’s Kokoda Trek 2016 we will help Interplast repair bodies and rebuild lives throughout the Asia Pacific region. For decades, Interplast has worked on the ground in some of the world’s poorest countries to provide free surgical treatment and facilitate safe, healthier and more sustainable healthcare initiatives. www.interplast.org.au
These are the doctors that helped Turia after she burned 65% of her body in a bushfire while she was running an ultramarathon. She is now the Ambassador for Interplast and leads challenging treks and experiences around the world to raise money for this very important charity.

With our support, Interplast's teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals can continue to provide free surgical treatment to patients living with treatable disabilities such as cleft lip and palate, burn scars and severe hand injuries. The funds we raise as part of this incredible adventure will also enable Interplast to train the next generation of surgical leaders in the countries in which they work. Through education, training and mentoring programs they empower local medical personnel to perform life-saving procedures independently.
This trek will be the challenge of a lifetime for us. We gratefully ask for your donations.
