Trekking for Interplast

Story

From 23 May to 2 June 2016, I'll be travelling to Paupa New Guinea to trek the Kokoda Track with ultra-marathon runner Turia Pitt, to help raise money for Interplast Australia & New Zealand.

THE REASON: I'm travelling to PNG as an Ambassador for my employer, Johnson & Johnson Medical and in partnership with Interplast Australia and New Zealand, who I am trekking Kokoda to raise funds for. Interplast are an amazing not-for-profit organisation working to improve the quality of life of people with disability in Asia-Pacific, by treating congenital or acquired medical conditions such as cleft lip and palate or burn scar contractures. I am thrilled to be raising money for Interplast so as to help provide free surgical treatment in some of the world's poorest countries.

THE PHYSICAL CHALLENGE: 96km of very steep hills. Hot days, cold nights and the potential for a lot of rain. Rated 5 out of 5 in trekking difficulty, this is not going to be easy.

THE FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE: $5000 for Interplast. $100 can provide dressings and surgical supplies to a patient after burns surgery, $300 can train a nurse in the Solomon Islands, $500 can provide essential rehabilitation services for up to three patients and $1000 can provide an absolutely life changing surgery. $5000 can go a long way.

I'd be most grateful for any contribution you might be willing and able to make.

This challenge is way outside my comfort zone, so donations, advice and training partners are welcome!

Many thanks
Leah
